BOILERMAKER TO BOSS

TEi Services prides itself on encouraging in-house upskilling and making opportunities for growth within our team.

This edition of our Staff Spotlight series focuses on Adam Packer, our Business Development Director and Joint Owner of TEi Services, who started his career as a boilermaker within the walls of the TEi Services workshop.

AUTHOR: Adam Packer

Although I now sit behind a desk instead of a workstation, I cut my teeth in the manufacturing industry on the tools as a boilermaker 22 years ago in the TEi Services workshop.

In 1999 I began my apprenticeship in boilermaking, where I honed my trade and gained my qualifications three years later. When our draftsman left mid-way through a big project, I was a natural fit to step out of the workshop and into the role as I had also gained experience in CAD drafting during school. From there, I progressed through the ranks of junior project manager, then estimator, moving into senior level management, and now, Director and Joint Owner of TEi Services.

While I was okay at the hands-on aspect of the industry and my trade, my interest really lay in developing the business and finding ways where TEi Services could grow and diversify. Since coming on board as Director in 2013, we've gone from strength to strength ever since.

My passion project during those years has been developing and growing the TEi Services Trommel business, which we manufacture right here in Townsville and ship to mining sites all across the globe. In recent years I’ve played a big hand in diversifying into the Defence and rail industries as well, which will continue to keep the business growing.

As the Busines Development Director my job is to ensure the future of the company and setting up our skills within global supply chain networks. Looking forward, the next 12-24 months are going to be really exciting for the team, with some major projects coming to fruition. TEi Services is only going to keep getting bigger and better.

TEi Services has been my home for the past 22 years and I’m so grateful for being able to help continue and grow the business which gave me my start all those years ago.
